Theatresports™

with Patti Stiles

Theatresports™ is a Keith Johnstone format licensed by the International Theatresports Institute. Impro Melbourne is the only company in Victoria that has permission to use the format. Theatresports™ has been played on every continent except Antarctica and in over 60 countries!

Theatresports™ is an improvisation based theatre format that entertains and educates the performers and audience. On the surface it is a team based ‘theatre competition’ with the same illusory struggle that professional wrestling exhibits. In front of the audience the competitors seem intent on winning, but inside them is a mutual desire to create dynamic, interesting theatre through spontaneity skills, storytelling and supportive play. Theatresports™ is capable of inducing laughter, tears and sport event style screaming and provoking thought, all while engaging and entertaining an audience.

This course is taught by Patti Stiles who was taught Theatresports™ by Keith Johnstone at its birthplace, the Loose Moose Theatre Company in Canada.

Prerequisites: Impro Melbourne's SpontaneityNarrative TechniqueCharacter and Scene Work courses, or similar training at the discretion of the Artistic Director or course instructor.
