Set Up! An Improvised Show

with Katherine Weaver

In this course, we will explore how to create stories and scenes using props, costume and found objects

In this performance series, students will explore how to support each others scenes using objects, set and costumes.

Learning this show is a great way to develop your improvisation by letting the world of the stage inspire you. Instead of starting with ideas in your head, you’ll discover how props, costumes and set pieces can spark characters, relationships and stories. It’s a playful way to practise trusting the obvious, making strong physical choices, supporting your partner and letting the environment do some of the creative work for you.

You’ll build confidence using objects on stage, learn how to justify anything you find, and practise turning simple visual ideas into engaging scenes. Most importantly, it’s a fun reminder that in improvisation, everything around you is an offer—all you have to do is notice it and play.

This course has 5 workshops and 3 performances

Prerequisites: Impro Melbourne’s completion of our core courses (SpontaneityNarrative TechniqueCharacter Scene Work), or equivalent impro experience as determined by the Artistic Director.
