The Contact with the Audience

with Maja Dekleva Lapajne

Improvisational theatre is known for its genuine contact with the audience.

Instead of creating theatre pieces that remain unchanged regardless of whether the audience is present or not, we
tend to create events that are influenced and shaped by everyone in the room. This experience
is precious and magical for everyone involved, but it is not a miracle that either happens or not.
It is certainly supported by our own actions. There are numerous performative tools that we can
use, practice, and continue to explore.

In this workshop, we will explore a specific technique from the field of clown theatre. By using
eye contact, spatial awareness, movement, voice, and physicalization of emotion, we will not
only share more with the audience and spread the stage action wider, but we will also receive
responses from the audience and allow them to co-create and compass our performance.

Prerequisites: Completion of our core courses (SpontaneityNarrative TechniqueCharacter, Scene Work, and Formats and Styles) or equivalent improvisation and acting experience as determined by the Artistic Director. Please email publicworkshops@impromelbourne.com.au with any questions
