Clown

with Jeromaia Detto

Clowns make people laugh, it's their job. What makes them so special though? Clowns are sensitive, playful and optimistic. They explore through vulnerability and discomfort, creating a space where audiences can dream.

"When people laugh, your clown is near to you" - Philippe Gaulier

Improv and Clown pair very well as art forms. They are very close and both practices can help the other. In this 5-week course, students will expand their improv tool-belt to incorporate the philosophies of clowns and explore a variety of tools and techniques to be lighter, more playful, and freer on stage.

The course will begin with a look at 'Le Jeu' (the game) focusing on play, pleasure, and complicité. The second half of the course will uncover a range of clowning techniques including, fixed point, the flop, finding the idiot within, discovering the pleasure to lie, and creating a simple routine. On the last day of the course, it will run as an open workshop, students can invite friends and family to watch this last workshop allowing students to practice their clowns in front of other people in a low-stress environment.

If you've attended clown workshops in the past, this one is definitely worth checking out. It's a great opportunity to practice the exercises and really improve your skills as you grow and learn. Like anything, The more you practice, the better you'll get, so don't miss out on another chance to learn about clowns!
