The next generation of improvisers take the stage!
Impro Melbourne is excited to present the Theatresports™ Schools Challenge, an annual event that brings students together from all over Victoria to create fun and daring theatre, in the spirit of creativity, teamwork, and support.
Teams of 3–5 students compete in a mock competition, performing theatrical and fun improvised scenes in a supportive environment. The focus is on the spirit of improvisation: spontaneity, creativity, storytelling, working with others and taking bold risks good-naturedly.
The 2023 Theatresports™ Schools Challenge will take place on Sunday 27th August.
- Intermediate (Years 7–9) from 2.30pm
- Senior (Years 10–12) from 5.00pm
What happens on the day?
The students arrive and are welcomed by the Impro Melbourne team. A warm-up workshop is held with all students in each division to break down barriers and set the tone for a fun and supportive day. Each team then meets their Impro Melbourne mentor who will help and support them throughout the day.
The match itself is a series of rounds where teams perform improvised scenes and games in front of an audience of friends, family, and peers.
Winning teams in each division receive:
- Title of Victoria Schools Theatresports™ Champion for the year
- A trophy to display at your school
- A guest appearance in Impro Melbourne’s Theatresports™ show
How do we join?
Choose a registration package from the list below, and head to this registration link with your selection by 20th June. [30th of April for Earlybird savings]
What happens after we register?
Impro Melbourne will help you prepare your students for the event. All schools receive a copy of the official International Theatresports™ Institute's guide to Theatresports™ and Impro Melbourne's Theatresports™ Schools Handbook. These will be facilitated by Impro Melbourne mentors and offer an opportunity for students to further develop their skills and to meet other participating students from around victoria.
In addition, Impro Melbourne’s specifically designed 120min in-person workshops extend students' learning by exploring character creation, storytelling, and the Theatresports™ format and games. These workshops can be focused with just the competing team members, or for up to 25 students.
Join the challenge and watch your students’ ideas and confidence come to life as they take a creative leap of faith into the world of improvisation and the ever-popular Theatresports™ format!
We look forward to you joining us on this amazing day.
