Hoof Hearted Wins Theatresports™ Week Two

by Kevin Yank on 20 May, 2013 in Shows

Say it out loud, and you’ll understand why Hoof Hearted tickled the most funny bones with only two players on deck in our sold-out second week of Theatresports™.

Hoof Hearted was represented by Luke Ryan and Lliam Amor

Word is clearly spreading that this year’s Theatresports™ season is something special. Not only was the stage crammed with five teams vying for a spot in our July 13th Grand Final (tickets now on sale!), but the seats were crammed with a sold out crowd! (Seriously, we were running around looking for extra chairs in the minutes before the show kicked off!)

The winning team this week was Hoof Hearted, which distinguished itself by taking the stage with only two players: Impro Melbourne veteran (and director of this Theatresports™ season) Lliam Amor, and last-minute addition Luke Ryan of The Big Hoo-Haa. Hoof Hearted stood out on a stage overflowing with players by playing focused, two-man scenes (including games such as “Remeniscences” and “Two Man Opera”). At times, their scenes were so much fun that players from other teams couldn’t resist joining in (as in their opening “Swapsies” scene about two men who’s forgotten their umbrellas).

But Hoof Hearted didn’t win easily. Rivals Middlegameatry matched Hoof Hearted point for point with strong scenes like a “Sing About It” featuring a compulsively homicidal barber (no relation) and a “Typewriter” Western in which Depressio The Kid met his match in Miss Jenny (Craig). By the end of the match, the two teams were tied on 46 points, forcing a sudden death round: a “No ‘S’” scene that stretched on for many long minutes until Middlegameatry captain Mark Gambino got just a little too swept up in the showdown between two mob bosses and let slip a single ‘S’, ceding the match to Hoof Hearted.

In a night with too many highlights to mention, we must nevertheless make room to thank guest musicial Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd (also of The Big Hoo-Haa), whose occasional injections of accidental drum loops added just the right amount of chaos to the night!
