In songprov, we often go big. Huge characters in huge stories who sing their wants and dreams. But what about the small stories? What about the intimate, domestic stories? What about our stories?
Us Australians. Stories of the old girl over the back fence, that kid with the flash bike at the milk bar, the sort-of-kind-of aunt who really wasn’t an aunt, the drinkers, the troublemakers, the bruisers and larrikins who populated our streets, kitchens and verandas.
In an intensive two week rehearsal and workshop, students will be guided through the techniques of rapid character creation, song types and their structure, the value of simplicity and repetition, melodic training and how with just a single, committed idea, entire worlds can be created. They will then have four opportunites to perform Fibro & Fences, a fully improvised Australian musical.
After each show, there will be detailed cast notes, as well as tailored challenges to each cast member looking ahead. "Fibro and Fences," is focused on creating a truly theatrical experience for the audience and an immersive, connected experience for the cast.
Prerequisites: A certain level of skilll is required for the Performance course. Students must have completed two x Impro Melbourne's Format and Styles course, or similar training at the discretion of the Artistic Director or course teacher.
