Commedia Part 2

with Christof!!

La Commedia Dell'Arte (Italian mask theatre) is where theatre meets improv and they elope to the circus on a runaway train, pursued by an enraged landlord.

“Great content knowledge and teaching skill, thanks Impro Melbourne!”

This is an extension of the work in Commedia Part 1, introducing more characters, working on your individual skills and preparing to present the characters developed to an audience. It builds on the following:

We will play with the physicality, definition and interaction of the traditional characters. We will use full mask and trance mask technique but with traditional leather masks. Each session will be supported by movement, staging, storytelling and performance exercises.

The masks and broad characters help embolden and simplify your choices. As a style, Commedia captures the immediacy of the improviser’s spirit while extending the cheekiness of the story risks and the physicality of the characterisations. There is no performance element to Part 1.

Performance: 29 March, 2018

Prerequisites: Impro Melbourne’s SpontaneityNarrative TechniqueCharacter and Scene Work courses, or equivalent impro experience as determined by the Artistic Director.
