The next generation of improvisors take the stage!
Impro Melbourne is excited to present: Theatresports schools challenge 2021
The Theatresports™ Schools Challenge is an annual event organised by Impro Melbourne that brings students together from all over Victoria to create fun and daring theatre, in the spirit of creativity, teamwork, and support.
Teams of three to five students compete in a mock competition, performing theatrical and fun improvised scenes in a supportive environment. The focus is on the spirit of improvisation: spontaneity, creativity, storytelling, working with others and taking bold risks good-naturedly.
This year the TSC will take place on Saturday 15th August, venue TBC.
Intermediate (Years 7-9) from 2 pm
Senior (Years 10-12) from 5:30 pm
What happens on the day?
The students arrive and are welcomed by the Impro Melbourne team. A warm-up workshop is held with all students in each division to break down barriers and set the tone for a fun and supportive day. Then each team meets their Impro Melbourne mentor who will help and support them throughout the day.
The match itself is a series of rounds where teams perform improvised scenes and games in front of an audience of friends, family, and peers.
Winning teams in each division receive:
Title of Victoria Schools Theatresports™ Champion for the year.
A trophy to display at your school.
A guest appearance in Impro Melbourne’s Theatresports™ Show.
PLUS! All participating players receive an invitation to two facilitated online workshops where they can meet and improvise with students from other schools.
How do we join?
Schools choose which type of registration package they prefer and need to register by 20th June. The types of packages are detailed below.
What happens after we register?
Impro Melbourne will help you prepare your students for the event. All schools receive a copy of the official International Theatresports™ Institute's guide to Theatresports™ and Impro Melbourne's Theatresports™ guide. In addition, all participating students will be invited to two x one-hour improvisation workshops online, via Zoom. These will be facilitated by Impro Melbourne mentors and offer an opportunity for students to further develop their skills and to meet other participating students from around victoria.
In addition, Impro Melbourne’s specifically designed 120min in-person workshops extend students' learning by exploring character creation, storytelling, and the Theatresports™ format and games. These workshops can be focussed for just the competing team members, or for a whole class of students.
Another exciting brand new option for 2021 is the Teacher Professional Development Workshop run by internationally renowned improvisation teacher Patti Stiles! Two teachers from each school who select this package can attend this specialized masterclass on teaching improvisation and Theatresports™.
Join the challenge and watch your students’ ideas and confidence come to life as they take a creative leap of faith into the world of improvisation and the ever-popular Theatresports™ format!
We look forward to you joining us on this amazing day.
