Improvisation for Actors
“Can I say how much I enjoyed the course. I thought it was excellent.”
This course is developed specifically for professional actors who want to explore spontaneous improvisation, tackle their fear of improvisation or improve their technique in the craft.
Improvisation is invaluable in auditions, rehearsals, script development, character exploration and performance. It cultivates a heightened awareness and deep connection to the present moment.
It is also a much sought after skill following the huge success of TV shows like Thank God You’re Here, The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm and films like Best In Show, This Is Spinal Tap and Waiting For Guffman.
Our workshops are run by professional actors, for professional actors. We work in the industry so we can provide practical guidance and suggestions from personal work experiences.
The workshops will be responsive to participant needs and will cover:
- impro basics (spontaneity, being present, removing fear)
- scene work (inspiring your partner, using offers, developing a narrative, playing the moment)
- character work (discovery through impulse, offers and response)
- releasing creative blocks (playing the moment with commitment, leaping into the unknown)
with relevance to:
- auditions
- stage work
- rehearsal techniques
- improvised work for theatre or television
For those with no practical or professional experience in the performing arts and who are beginning their exploration of the acting profession please consider our Spontaneity courses as a starting point.
